Position Overview:
The Executive Director of Economic Development will be a visionary leader responsible for developing and executing economic development strategies that attract and retain businesses, foster entrepreneurship, and promote job growth. This position requires a highly motivated, relationship-driven professional who can engage with stakeholders, government officials, and business leaders to create and implement policies that support sustainable economic expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive economic development strategy that aligns with GBP’s long-term vision.
- Identify and attract new business investments to the region while supporting the expansion and retention of existing businesses.
- Foster strong relationships with local, state, and national stakeholders, including businesses, government agencies, site selectors, and community organizations.
- Advocate for policies and incentives that promote business growth and workforce development.
- Oversee business recruitment, retention, and expansion programs, ensuring alignment with the region’s economic goals.
- Collaborate with workforce development initiatives to ensure a strong talent pipeline that meets employer needs.
- Represent GBP and the community at key industry events, conferences, and meetings to promote the region as a prime business destination.
- Provide leadership and support for economic development projects, grants, and funding opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economic development, business administration, public administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of five years of experience in economic development, business recruitment, or a related field preferred.
- Proven track record of business attraction, retention, and expansion success.
- Strong knowledge of economic development tools, incentives, and financing mechanisms.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with business leaders, government officials, and community partners.
- Strong communication and public speaking abilities.
- Ability to think strategically and implement innovative economic development initiatives.
- Experience with site selection, real estate development, and public-private partnerships is a plus.
