Job Summary
We are seeking a Certified Arborist to join our team seasonal contractor. The ideal candidate will have a passion for tree inventory, urban forest management plan, tree planting and maintenance, with experience in planting and maintaining healthy trees in an urban environment. This role involves working outdoors in various conditions. The Certified Arborist will play a crucial role in enhancing the tree canopy in our community.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a Tree Canopy Count for 7,500 trees.
- Create an Urban Forestry Management Plan.
- Identify trees suitable for planting locations.
- Supervise the planting of 400 trees.
- Utilize GIS technology to map and manage tree inventories effectively.
- Train apprentices on proper tree planting and maintenance.
- Complete all invoices and reimbursement forms according to requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in conducting a tree canopy count and the urban forestry management plan
- Experience in tree care, landscaping, or a related field
- International Society of Arboriculture Certification
- Knowledge of tree life cycle, tree maintenance, planting techniques, tree rescue from pest infestation or diseases, tree removal, watering requirements, and tree species identification.
- Familiarity with GIS technology for effective inventory management.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
- A valid driver's license is required; commercial driving experience is a plus.
- Ability to supervise and train apprentices.
- Prior work experience in an urban environment.
Qualifications: Deep understanding of tree biology, soil science, and pest management. Assess complex situations and develop effective solutions for tree care. Be able to diagnose tree health issues, plan a large-scale project, and manage risks.
Communication skills: Effectively communicate with clients, team members, and the public. Explain tree care practices, provide recommendations, and coordinate with other professionals and community members.
Skills: Tree Canopy and Urban Forestry Management Plan experience
Physical Fitness and Stamina: Ability to assess trees, lift equipment, and work outside in various weather conditions.
Education Level: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in forestry, soil fertility, plant pathology, and/or turfgrass management. Programs in , including classes in botany, soil science, and forest ecology. A minor in may also be available.
Licenses and certifications: International Society of Arboriculture Certification
Safety Awareness: Adhere to safety protocols and use protective gear to minimize risks.
