What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Technician position at Greater Chesapeake Hand Specialists?
We are seeking a full time Sterile Processing tech . Hours typically are from 10 am to 6 pm, but can be flexed a little. Must have at least 3 years sterile processing experience as well as experience picking orthopedic cases. Prefer a candidate with ASC experience and experience with orthopedic trays.
Job Summary
The primary function of the Sterile Processing Technician is to process instrumentation and equipment used in surgical procedures, to be knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and adhere strictly to them. The Sterile Processing Technician assists other members of the health care team in providing safe, efficient, cost-effective environment for patients, family member and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and organize instrument trays and supplies from daily schedule.
- Process instruments and trays through sterilizer.
- Monitor and appropriately document sterilization process.
- Put away supplies as necessary.
- Routine maintenance checks as assigned.
- Help ensure proper trays are available through communication with vendor reps when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Appropriate technical school training or on the job training in processing, sterilization and care of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- At least 3 years’ experience in the health care field, prior ambulatory surgery experience preferred.
- Flexibility and ability to adjust to changes within the daily schedule of activities.
- Effective communication with staff, physicians, patients and family members.
- Ability to pick surgical cases is preferred.
- Experience in an orthopedic ASC setting preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Works in exceptionally clean, well-lighted, ventilated work area.
- Standing for long periods of time, hands in water and detergent frequently.
- Use of gloves, gown and face mask.
- Exposure to contaminated instruments and strong disinfectants.
- Pushing and pulling of bulky and heavy equipment.
- Repeated tasks frequently.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
