Position: Elementary Intervention Specialist - Mild/Moderate
Reports to: Building Principal
Location: Harrison Elementary School

We are seeking an Elementary Intervention Specialist - Mild/Moderate at Harrison Elementary for the 2025/2026 school year and beyond.

Job Summary:
The ideal candidate is an advocate for the student with strong a special education background and understanding of the development of the IEP, interpreting testing/intervention data and has strong communication skills to work with teachers, parents, related service providers, and students. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Intervention Specialist focused on supporting elementary school aged children with behavioral challenges. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of child development and behavior management techniques, with a passion for helping children succeed academically and socially.

Requirements
  • Develop the IEP services per data and documentation.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of students' behavioral challenges and needs through observation, interviews, and collaboration with teachers and parents.
  • Develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on assessment findings and in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other school staff.
  • Create measurable goals and objectives tailored to each student's unique needs, with a focus on promoting positive behavior and academic success.
  • Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions and strategies to address targeted behaviors and support students' social-emotional development.
  • Provide direct support to students in various settings, including classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one sessions, to reinforce positive behaviors and teach alternative coping skills.
  • Track SDI and maintain compliance.
  • Coordinate related services as needed (SLP/OT/PT).
  • Support classroom teachers with inclusion practices & accommodations to meet the student’s needs.
  • Knowledge of research-based intervention tools and materials.
  • Coordinate and facilitate required special education meetings such as IEP annual reviews, amendments, placement changes, etc.
  • Coordinate with outside service providers such as Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBA's) and Best Point Behavioral Health Providers.
  • Effectively manage behaviors relating to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Collect data for Functional Behavior Assessments & Implement Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Oversee Para-Professional assignments including assigning daily tasks, scheduling, training on strategies to support student goals, providing accommodations, & data collection.
  • Support BCBA's in coaching Behavior Technician's working one on one with students.
  • Actively participate in & be willing to lead monthly department meetings in collaboration with the other Intervention Specialists, Para- Professionals, BCBA's, RBT's, & building administrators.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Pupil Services Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and specific best practice strategies for working with students with behavioral challenges.
  • Knowledge of or training in de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of Ohio’s Extended Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge of Ohio’s Alternate Assessment Framework.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Knowledge of Assitive Technology.
  • Knowledge of the Unique Curriculum.
  • Satisfactory BCI and FBI background checks are required.
  • Flexibility and the adaptability.
  • The ability to assess a potentially unsafe situation & react quickly to de-escalate.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Special Education.
  • Valid Ohio State Certification as a Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive Intervention Specialist.
  • Valid Ohio State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • Training/course through OCALI Autism Certification Center or similar program modules.
  • Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (can be provided by the district).
  • Orton Gillingham certification is a preferred.
