Position Overview:
Winton Woods City Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Guidance Counselor for our South Campus (Grades 1-6). This role is particularly focused on therapeutic counseling and will be grant-funded. The counselor will work with students on social-emotional learning (SEL), conflict resolution, and career exploration, collaborating closely with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator to provide job experience opportunities for students. The position aligns with state requirements for career and graduation planning starting in grades 6 and 7.
The ideal candidate will provide short-term intervention and crisis support, collaborating with external mental health resources, such as Talbert House, and the School-Based Health Center to support families. The role will also involve psychoeducation to help students build the emotional and social skills needed for personal and academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic counseling for students, with a focus on short-term interventions and crisis support, including support for social-emotional learning (SEL) and conflict resolution.
- Coordinate with the CTE Coordinator to integrate career exploration and job experience opportunities for students.
- Implement and promote career and graduation planning starting in grades 6 and 7, in alignment with state requirements.
- Support students in developing personal growth plans and help guide them through academic and behavioral challenges.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and staff to ensure appropriate interventions and support services are in place.
- Provide psychoeducation to students on topics like stress management, emotional regulation, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with external service providers, including Talbert House and the School-Based Health Center, to ensure families and staff are informed about available resources.
- Assist with the coordination of summer programs or other extended services similar to those offered by school psychologists and counselors.
- Maintain confidential documentation of counseling sessions, student progress, and interventions.
- Collaborate with school staff to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration to support the district’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Community Mental Health license or equivalent
- Educational license-Intervention Specialist preferred
- Previous experience in school counseling, mental health counseling, or social-emotional education is preferred.
- Ability to provide short-term intervention and work effectively with students on their emotional, social, and academic needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive situations with professionalism.
- Knowledge of career exploration activities and how to integrate them into the school environment for early learners.
- Understanding of the educational and therapeutic needs of students in elementary and middle grades.
- Flexible and adaptable to changes within the district and community.
