The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is searching for individuals to fill positions within the Signal Department of the Rail Districts Power & Way Section. The position of Signal Maintainer 450 is responsible for the daily and seasonal electrical/electronic component maintenance of our signal equipment assets along the Blue, Green and Red Lines of our Rapid Transit System.
Detailed DescriptionDuties: Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of all rail signal equipment. Installs signal equipment. Performs routine testing and repair of rail signal equipment under the direction of Lead Signal Technician Grade 6, Signal Technicians Grade 6 and Signal Technicians Grade 5. Routes trains through work areas, Responds to trouble calls and emergencies, and Records written log of all work activities. This position will promote a safe and secure atmosphere, follow all safety and security rules and perform other related duties as assigned. Works overtime as necessitated by operational needs.
Job RequirementsMinimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Demonstrated experience and familiarity in electrical theory and/or basic electronics, including circuits carrying lethal voltages (such as 480 volts AC and 600 volts DC). Applicants must also have a valid Ohio Drivers License with no more than four (4) points in the last three (3) years.
Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating.

Additional Details: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process have to successfully pass a computer assessment, as well as an interview. Candidates must score a minimum 70% or higher on both the written test and performance test, to move forward in the process.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written test 35%, Performance test 50%, Record Evaluation 15%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Written test 50%, Performance test 50%.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information for internal candidates includes a review of the following:
- 5 or more absence occurrences
- 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions
- 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)
- 5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)
- 4 or more active tardies
- Drug or alcohol suspension
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) suspension
- Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
