Detailed Description
Duties: Works under the technical direction of a Grade 5 Equipment Maintainer in the repair of electrical and mechanical rail equipment. Will perform one or more of the following functions: conduct rail inspections, diagnose and repair electrical rail equipment, replace rail trucks, repair other mechanical rail equipment, rebuild rail equipment parts, repair body damage on rail cars, inspect and repair air conditioning and heating systems. The incumbent in this position can be assigned to any of these duties according to the need and can be reassigned to a different functional area and/or shift at any time.

The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position.
Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process have to successfully pass a written exam & performance test. Candidates must pass the written exam with 70% or higher & receive a minimum of 70% or higher on performance test, to move forward in the process. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written Test, 42.5%, Performance test 42.5%, Record Evaluation 15%. For external candidates, weights for a final score are: Written Test 50% & Performance Test 50%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Completion of a high school or post-high school Automotive/Diesel Technology or related program (as evidenced by diploma, degree, certificate, etc.) is also required.
- To substitute for completion of an Automotive/Diesel Technology program, two (2) years of verifiable experience in an automotive or truck shop maintaining and repairing vehicle systems (e.g., engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering and suspension) or an ASE certification will be considered.
- A valid STATE OF OHIO DRIVERS LICENSE is required, no more than FOUR (4) POINTS in the past three years.

- 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)

- Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
