Middle School (6-8) Reading Specialist

AS A VIRTUAL READING SPECIALIST you will:
Under the direction of the Principal, deliver targeted reading instruction to small groups or individual students, focusing on phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
Provide intensive reading support to students struggling below grade level, often working in small groups or individually, and collaborating with teachers to improve literacy skills.
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to modify instruction, co-create differentiated learning plans, and provide professional development on literacy instruction.
Monitor student progress, make data-driven decisions, and adjust interventions as needed to ensure student growth.
Remain up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in reading instruction and intervention.
Engage and nurture student learning and student relationships.
Teach engaging live lessons over a virtual platform.
Promote creativity and excitement in the virtual learning environment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree
Appropriate MA DESE licensure for grades 6-8 Specialist Teacher, Reading
Proficient in Microsoft and Google Docs
Strong written/verbal communication skills
Although mainly a virtual position, at times it is required to travel within and between assigned geographic areas to support students with MCAS testing, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities.
An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g. learning management systems, web-based instructional tools)

DESE SEI Endorsement
Teaching (may include student teaching) experience preferred.
Experience working with the proposed age group.
Experience supporting adults and students in the use of technology.
An aptitude for instructional technology
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, prepare and create instructional activities.
Conduct personalized support/tutorial services for students.
Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in.
Personalize instruction based on student learning needs.
Participate in ongoing training sessions.
Follow and create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Develop incentives to engage participants in class.
Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
