General Position Summary: Blueprint to Homeownership is a new service powered by Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. It is an independent, nonprofit program designed to build confidence, knowledge, and hope in first-time homebuyers in Central Iowa.
Our Services: Blueprint to Homeownership helps future homeowners build the skills and confidence they need to begin or make the next steps on their unique pathway to homeownership:
Our Impact: By the end of their journey with Blueprint to Homeownership, our direct-service clients will have the knowledge and confidence to move forward on the path they’ve outlined with their homebuying counselor. Many more prospective homebuyers will be able to self-serve through accessing a variety of helpful information and online or in person information and learning opportunities highlighted by the Blueprint to Homeownership.
Community Connector Role: The Community Connector is the public face and voice of Blueprint to Homeownership. This individual will engage in strategic outreach, build and sustain relationships, and foster collaboration with those committed to helping more Central Iowans achieve homeownership. Special emphasis will be placed on relationships that benefit first generation homebuyers and other underserved groups.

- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain relationships with organizations, coalitions, working groups, and individuals who are invested in first-time homeownership, such as non-profits, lenders, places of worship, coalitions, and professional organizations. Focus on meeting or exceeding goals for the number and type of meetings, especially with those dedicated to helping historically underserved populations achieve and maintain homeownership.
- Support and Collaboration: Assist Blueprint to Homeownership counseling and coaching staff by monitoring the future Blueprint to Homeownership website content and postings. Collaborate with appropriate staff and community partners to ensure that shared information is timely, relevant, and reaches target audiences.

Passion for Homeownership: A strong belief in homeownership as a tool for building intergenerational wealth and strengthening neighborhood and community connections.
- Communication Skills: Proven ability in listening, oral communication, and organizational skills.
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree or career experience in nonprofit administration, communications, community organizing, or relationship management is preferred.
- Relevant Experience: Experience in fields related to homeownership, such as lending, community organizing, real estate, or community education, is a plus.
- Awareness of Housing Issues: Familiarity with the impacts of past redlining, restrictive deeds or covenants, and other discriminatory housing practices on homeownership in Central Iowa, particularly Des Moines.
- Commitment to Mission: Dedication to the Blueprint to Homeownership mission and vision, and alignment with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s mission, vision, and core values.
- Creative and Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Relationship Building: A history of building mutually beneficial strategic relationships.
- Independent and Team Work: Ability to work independently and as part of a team or coalition in a fast-paced environment with limited direction.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work some nights and weekends.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to use modern software and technology in daily work; familiarity with Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams, is helpful.
- Mobility: A valid driver’s license or access to other reliable method(s) of travel to local meetings and events.
