Job Summary:
The Assistant Manager of Easton Garden Works supports the Manager of Easton Garden Works and GEDP's six community gardens, compost program, related educational programs, and any new urban agricultural and sustainability initiatives.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Administration/Planning
- Help manage and maintain program equipment to ensure in good working order and allocated to appropriate locations. Ensure adequate supplies are ordered and distributed to gardens.
- Support seed starting efforts.
- Help ensure accurate record keeping.
- Support grant applications, grant reporting, and sponsorship proposals.
Production / Project Management
- Help plan and execute monthly workshops, including but not limited to, creation of educational materials, communications, and volunteer support.
- Support food justice outreach programs by working with community partners to distribute produce, ensuring appropriate food handling.
- Help distribute plants and materials to community gardeners, community members, and for annual donation row planting.
- Support general maintenance of gardens, including but not limited to, general landscaping, lawn and turf maintenance, removal of garbage and recycling, and general repairs.
- Research and employ best practices in urban agriculture / community gardening with a focus on sustainability, best practices in food safety, and innovation in urban farming.
- Support composting program.
- Meet regularly with internal GEDP colleagues, representatives from City departments, and community stakeholders on program initiatives.
- Respond to program inquiries, needs, complaints and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Help upervise work of volunteers and implement procedures to ensure safety of staff, volunteers, vendors, and guests.
- Help valuate programs for areas of improvement to ensure overall success.
Other
- Help coordinate volunteers and interns through community outreach.
- Maintain respectful and professional communication.
- Perform other responsibilities and projects as assigned by Manager of Easton Garden Works.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in horticulture, environmental studies or sciences, and other related fields is preferred.
- Previous work with community redevelopment and urban farming/gardens is a plus.
- Strong leadership, planning, organizational, and entrepreneurial abilities, including those that facilitate building effective teams and strong relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Canva, and WordPress is required.
- Experience maintaining professional social media communications is a plus.
- Strong communicator, excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with all levels within an organization and with the community.
- Collaborative work style: ability to interact with a wide variety of people, including staff, volunteers, interns, business owners, and community members.
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment in close vicinity with other employees in all types of weather. Must also be willing to work in an indoor office and greenhouse environment.
- Must be familiar with basic carpentry through use of hand tools, such as saw, hammer, and screwdriver, as well as garden tools, such as rake, hoe, shovel, tiller, weedwhacker, and mower.
- Employee must maintain a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicle to transport supplies and equipment and travel between various worksites.

The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25-45 pounds, and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation. Employee is occasionally required to travel offsite to various gardens and for business meetings as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
