Job Goal
The autism specialist paraprofessional is responsible for providing educational instruction to assigned students in a structured classroom environment as directed by the teacher. Instruction will be delivered in core content academic areas, daily living skills, and social skills. The paraprofessional will be trained to implement the basic principles of applied behavior analysis under the guidance of a Board-Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA).

Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Certification
- Minimum of 48 college credits or passing score on Paraprofessional Praxis Exam.
- Completion of Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) program upon appointment.
- Successful completion of required criminal history review background check and sexual misconduct/child abuse disclosure process.
- Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status.
- Collaborates with behavior analyst, classroom teacher, and other paraprofessionals to develop and implement educational plans and positive behavioral interventions.
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials as needed to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Records daily data pertaining to academic progress and student behavior.
- Maintains student adaptive equipment and/or augmentative communication devices.
- Assists students with daily living activities such as personal hygiene and toileting.
- Recognizes signs of frustration, anxiety, and anger in order to implement antecedent strategies and teach alternative behaviors to reduce problem behavior.
- Assists in controlling situations involving aggressive behavior of students in accordance with approved crisis procedures as trained.?
- Participates in district in-services, state-required professional development, and other specialized trainings related to strategies for working with autistic students.
