Lead Horticulturist
Position Summary: The Lead Horticulturist is responsible for all aspects of landscape, tree and plant health management for GGC horticulture practices and relevant design projects, as well as plant care procedures. On-site (50%), in nursery (40%) and in office (10%).
Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Oversee landscape maintenance properties, perform evaluations, reports and property walks.
- Oversee, lead and manage all aspects of tree fertilization schedules, including soil samples/testing and weed management program.
- Provide excellent client customer service and education regarding tree and plant health, turf and native grasses.
- Maintain clear, consistent and effective communications with job foreman, designers and office team members,
- Team player; contributes to GGC’s safety culture, and the company mission, vision and values.
- Oversee, lead and manage Junior Horticulturist(s).
- Leverage AI to effectively solve problems and integrate solutions into existing business systems and products.
- Maintain plant lists; continue to increase knowledge of plants and plant care best practices.
- Facilitate plant care training and education on job sites for team members and clients.
- Evaluate plant list on bidding jobs and offer recommendations.
- Manage all grow-ins.
- Calibrate spreader and seeders.
Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or Minor in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Horticulture Science, Plant or Soil Science, Associate’s degree and/or equivalent in experience or a degree in a related field.
- 3 years of industry experience, including familiarity with greenhouse operations and plant propagation techniques is advantageous, a passion for gardening is essential.
- Proficiency in using landscape maintenance machinery, hand tools and power tools.
- Bilingual, Spanish speaking is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Working conditions: work is performed outside in the Montana weather, expect seasonal variability, must be able to sustain full days of physical labor, and lift 30-50 lbs. consistently.
Compensation: Salary starting at $80,000 per year including health insurance, benefits and paid time off.
