Job Summary
Step into an exciting camp role as you help cultivate a healthy and happy camp culture, address camper behavior, coach and support staff, and photograph the magic of camp. With the support of the camp leadership team, you will ensure that staff are providing a safe and positive experience for all campers. You will assist in the camp's daily operations and work closely with the camp staff to ensure they have the tools needed to support the campers. This position works on continuously improving all areas of camp, helps campers adjust to the camp environment, anticipates and works towards avoiding problems, enforces camp policies and procedures, leads with enthusiasm, models ideal staff behavior when engaging with campers, and can fill any role as needed. While there is some important office work, you will still be very actively engaged with campers and spend most of the time outdoors.
YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya is a Resident Summer Camp and Outdoor Education Center owned and operated by the Greater Green Bay YMCA. It is part of a mission-based Y organization focused on providing unique and valuable experiences to campers ages 7-17.
Essential Functions
Every day is different. Living at camp, you will be flexible with your time to meet the needs of staff, participants and programs. Requires the ability to move freely including but not limited to running, hiking, boating, biking, and swimming. Work in all types of weather including precipitation and extreme hot or cold temperatures. The ability to lift and move equipment and use camp tools is required. As a safety responder, the ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and/or lift at least 30 pounds will be necessary.

Essential Functions
- Directly oversee all camper behavior issues during camp.
- Responsible for working with staff in their learning of behavior management and dealings with behavior issues.
- Oversee documentation of all behavior related incidents.
- Work directly with camp staff, leadership, and parents to meet the needs of the campers.
- Actively observe camper behaviors and be available to assist as needed.
- Provide direction, support, coaching, and feedback for all staff regarding camper behaviors.
- Take photographs and videos of camp to be used for marketing and social media purposes.
- Demonstrate responsible judgement in all aspects of job responsibilities and personal behavior.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of staff training.
- Assist in all opening and closing camp operations.
- Cultivate quality relationships with campers, leadership, and staff.
- Communicate with parents to best serve campers.
- Keep camp leadership team informed of observations and concerns regarding camper experience and staff performance.
- Serve as a lifeguard and perform basic first aid when necessary.
- Attend and contribute to all staff trainings, meetings, and events.
- Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Work one summer weekend program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED according to ACA regulations; at least 21 years old preferred.
- 2 years of relevant experience working with youth (ex: camping, teaching, supervising) required.
- Requires critical thinking skills along with the ability to prioritize workloads to meet timelines and goals.
- Excellent telephone, face to face, and written communication skills tailored to the appropriate audience are essential.
- Knowledge of ACA safety standards required.
- Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required; training provided.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as defined by Greater Green Bay YMCA policy.
