What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant II position at Greater Iowa Credit Union?
We are currently seeking an Accountant II to support the finance and accounting operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Accounting and finance duties are to be performed in accordance with credit union regulatory standards.
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm (hybrid work model)
Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010
- Process Accounts Payable including all functions from verifying approvals to printing checks and filing documentation.
- Supports the finance and accounting operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Performs accounting duties in accordance with GAAP and credit union accounting practices.
- Performs requested outgoing wire transactions and posts incoming wires according to credit union procedural guidelines.
- Posts corporate overnight transaction entries, reconciles overnight account, reconciles correspondent bank accounts and provides any support necessary to maintain timely and accurate records of these accounts.
- Complies segments of monthly closings such as accruals and prepaid expenses and assists with preparation of monthly and annual reports.
- Reconciles accounts, posts to and balances general and subsidiary ledgers. Includes daily review and correction of any trial balance, general and subsidiary ledger discrepancies.
- Posts and reconciles ATM card, debit card, and credit card statements.
- Originates ACH items, load templates into ACH system, balance ACH transmission, and perform other ACH related functions.
- Responsible for ATM maintenance and member service functions such as ATM cash balancing, ATM sight drafts, and ATM installs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills
1. Must be able to operate a 10 key calculator and computer keyboard by touch.
2. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
3. Proven record of accuracy and attention to detail.
4. Ability to multi-task.
