What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consumer Underwriter position at Greater Iowa Credit Union?
We are currently seeking a full-time Consumer Underwriter to build and enhance relationships and maintain good rapport with existing and new auto dealers. Analyzes loan applicant's credit worthiness and makes the determination to approve or deny a loan. Responsible for assisting with the day to day operations of the indirect lending department and the creation and carrying out of a business plan to increase penetration in the indirect auto market.
Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm & rotating Saturday's 8am to 5pm
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Provides quality underwriting through timely and thorough evaluation of consumer loan
applications. The primary focus will be on indirect loan applications. Approves or rejects loans
within limit of authority. Communicates directly with automotive dealer employees on loan
decisions and program guidelines. - Builds and maintains strong business relationships with new and existing dealers. Facilitates a
streamlined process between dealer and credit union. Answers questions, resolves issues in a
timely manner, and ensures quality member service. - Perform credit analysis and underwrite credit cards.
- Ensures all relationships and contracts with dealers and all indirect loans are in compliance with
state and federal regulations. - Maintains knowledge of departmental operations, industry trends, competitor rates and terms,
and changing regulations that impact customer credit or the indirect lending program. - Participates in the loan review process and identifies follow-up, and the development and
recommendation of indirect automobile lending policies, practices and promotions to be
operationally efficient. - Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: One year to three years of similar or related consumer loan/underwriting experience.
Education: (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing,
or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific
skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

4. Proven track record of low delinquency and charge off ratios.
5. Working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting consumer lending activity.

7. Experience with loan processing software and data processing systems.
7. Ability to use standard office equipment.
8. Ability to lift, move, or transfer items, materials, or product up to 20 lbs.
Physical Requirements:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee
is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, push and pull. The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
