We are currently seeking a Director of Risk Management to be responsible for evaluating the credit union strategies and operational processes to ensure oversight and management objectives are being met and in line with regulatory guidance. Overseeing the credit union's risk management department and ensuring that all procedures, protocols, and strategies are fully implemented to protect the company and its assets.
Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010 - Hybrid work availability
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm and occasion evenings for board meetings as needed.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Experience: Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.
Education: (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills
Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Performing a risk assessment and evaluations: Analyzing current risks while keeping in mind the company's previous handling of risks and identifying/comparing potential risks that are affecting the company while following criteria set out by the risk committee such as costs and legal requirements.
- Works closely with the Senior Leadership Team, as well as management and team leaders, to ensure open lines of communication at all times, and they may also be responsible for performing regular risk-assessments and presenting results and recommendations to the risk committee for improvement.
- Lead and Manage Company risk management programs by designing and implementing an overall risk management process for the organization, which includes an analysis of the financial impact on the company when risks occur.
- Perform evaluations of internal control systems by maintenance of permanent files incorporating narrative descriptions, flowcharts, memos, etc.; reports findings and recommendations.
- Develops and oversee the implementation of new strategies to effectively reduce risks taken by the credit union while developing and enforce the policies and procedures to assist in effective monitoring. Review and maintain business continuity plans to limit risks.
- Leading regulatory exams, non-exam regulatory meetings and audits for the Credit Union as a whole.
- Responsible for the Credit Union compliance in all applicable regulations.
- Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability through training. Educating the organization about the most significant risks to the business; ensuring department heads understand the risks that might affect area of responsibility; ensuring individuals understand their own accountability for individual risks.
