Position Summary: The Doula Training Program Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting a new group of Doulas by managing key logistical and operational tasks related to Doula training and integration into the local health care system. The position will work closely with the Maternal Child Health Nurse Manager, Doula Training Program Director and Perinatal Care Program Medical Director to ensure seamless execution of the doula training program initiatives. Responsibilities include recruiting 2 cohorts of community members interested in being trained to become doulas in the community, overseeing their training and mentorship and assisting with their deployment in the local health care system. The Doula Program Coordinator will provide critical support to ensure successful initiation and completion of a predetermined Massachusetts DPH grant work plan, with an overarching goal to increase patient access to doula support during the pregnancy, birthing and postpartum experience by enhancing the local Doula workforce. This position will be funded for 24 months.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:
- Lead the recruiting and screening of Doula candidates for the Doula Training Program.
- Oversee the scheduling of training sessions through coordination with consultant trainers.
- Identify ongoing training needs and opportunities focused on specific organizational needs.
- Coach Doula candidates in working with healthcare and social service providers within their designated communities to ensure delivery of high-quality services throughout pregnancy, labor and postpartum doula services.
- Must be knowledgeable of the reproductive healthcare system, specifically within underserved populations with focus on the various social determinants that prevent access to equitable care.
- Participate in conceptualizing program development, drafting and preparing policies (sometimes in conjunction with local hospitals) and resource development strategies.
- Responsible for developing/facilitating procedures/processes of the program.
- Participate in team meetings with Doula Program leadership team
- Establish relationships with community partners.
- Organize experiential learning activities/projects for doulas.
- Support Doulas during and after training completion with monthly supervisory meetings.
- Represent GLFHC at meetings and forums with funders, partners and community organizations.
- Identify resources, develop strategies and establish partnerships to strengthen and enhance the program and services to program participants.
- Develop expertise on program-based practice, evidence-based practices, research, data tracking and reporting, innovation, client input, and evaluation of the program
- Assist leadership team and Lawrence General Hospital with creating a service delivery strategy in accordance with agency resources, policies, and protocols.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Degree or GED required.
- Bachelors and/or Master's degree, or equivalent education and experience in public health, social work, nursing, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy a plus.
- Certified Doula and/or Completion of 27 hours Doula training within 90 Days of hire
- Two years, direct service (individual, group and family) experience in working with underserved high needs populations.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
- One to two years supervisory experience desired.
- Knowledge of best, promising and evidence-based Maternal Child Health and development practices.
- Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications.
- Be available to work a 40-hour work week
