Job Title: Day Camp Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:
Day Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising campers and guiding them through the camp’s daily activities. They act as role models for our campers, consistently showing the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility in a way that builds a positive and welcoming community for all our campers. Camp counselors are always looking for ways to provide fun and engaging activities while maintaining a safe environment for all campers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise and lead campers through all camp programs, such as games, songs, skits, and other activities.
- Build positive relationships between campers and encourage a camp atmosphere of mutual respect, friendship and learning through experience.
- Ensure campers are safe while in the program. Constantly evaluate risk in activities and management practices to avoid accidents and hazards.
- Communicate with leadership regarding camper behavior issues and injuries.
- Serve as a role model for campers, modeling the four core values of the YMCA and showing enthusiasm, good sportsmanship, and a positive attitude always. Contribute to a positive camp culture by showing enthusiasm for camp activities. Work to incorporate their individual needs and interests into camp programming.
- Participate in all assigned and agreed upon aspects of the camp day, including but not limited to camper attendance, drop-off, and pick-up, opening and closing camp duties.
- Attending all required staff training and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 17 years of age
- Complete Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sexual Offender Registration Information (SORI) check
- Up-to-date immunization record and health history
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
- Experience working with school age children.
- Strong communication skills
