Job Title: Yoga Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Responsible for leading and instructing yoga classes safely.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Arrives 5-10 minutes prior to the start of class and stays at least 5-10 minutes after class to socialize with participants, clean up equipment, and make sure the room is prepared for the next class.

·         Welcomes all participants in a friendly and outgoing manner.

·         Leads and instructs yoga classes safely while demonstrating proper form, speaking proper cues and providing modifications to participants as necessary.

·         Corrects ineffective movements or those which may cause injury.

·         Spends time outside of regular teaching schedule preparing for classes and comes to each class with organized routines and proper musical accommodations.

·         Changes class routines quarterly or more frequently.

·         Connects with class participants by learning names and engaging in conversations.

·         Starts and ends class on time according to group fitness schedule.

·         Stays on top of new trends and continuously works to improve abilities as an instructor.

·         Oversees proper use of equipment and supplies, makes recommendations for when equipment needs to be replaced or new supplies need to be purchased.

·         Reads class announcements regularly and records class attendance when applicable.

·         Ensures classroom space is neat and tidy before leaving.

·         Attends all mandatory staff meetings and stays up to date on mandatory certification and training.

·         Able to communicate to others how the YMCA supports kids, adults, and families in the community.

·         Promote yoga and group fitness classes for other instructors to increase attendance within the community.

·         Know the audience, have flexibility to adapt and meet the needs of participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         RYT 200 and/or additional specialty certifications or licenses as needed. 

·         Current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications should be completed upon arrival or within 90 days of hire.

·         Knowledge and understanding of instruction technique and design of classes with demonstrated ability to lead classes of all levels and attract high volumes of class participants.

·         Exceptional customer service, verbal communication, motivational skills, and ability to connect with participants on a personal level.

·         Understands the mission of the YMCA.

·         Five or more years of personal practice preferred.

·         Standing and walking are at minimum 90% of the shift.

·         Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

·         Daily activities include reaching, lifting, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping.
