You can make a difference, as we are seeking a Director of Grant Programs ! This position is responsible for managing discretionary grant programs and advancing priority grantmaking and community leadership strategies by guiding grant portfolios and serving on relevant taskforces to address significant community issues. The incumbent partners with colleagues to identify opportunities to engage donors, nonprofits and partners to support the Foundation's strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Collaborates with Community Impact (CI) team on investigation and research to inform strategic direction, utilizing convening, advocacy/public policy to advance grant portfolio goals.
  • Cultivates and manages strategic partnerships with community-based organizations, funders and other partners to advance the Foundation's strategic grantmaking.
  • Conducts careful analysis to identify opportunities for GMF to have a significant impact in promoting racial equity and inclusion in the grant portfolio.
  • Partners with Development and Philanthropic Services staff to create and execute opportunities that help expose, educate and engage donors in the Foundation's strategic priorities.
  • Investigates, evaluates and prepares recommendations to CI Committee and Board.
  • Works with Vice President, CI to analyze, evaluate and maximize the effectiveness of discretionary grantmaking.
  • Manages consultant contracts for specific projects or initiatives.
  • Represents the Foundation at community meetings and events that align with strategic priorities.
  • Supervises assigned department personnel and serves on the Foundation’s Management Team.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, administration, or social sciences; or equivalent work experience required; Graduate degree preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of professional grantmaking experience in philanthropy required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Management experience in one or more of the following program areas required: education, health, community development, economic development, or social services.
  • Experience managing or directing a major initiative or project, facilitating group discussions around community issues and general community networking required
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Adept at research, analysis, problem solving and strategic thinking.
  • Knowledge and experience with nonprofit organizations.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and prepare brief summaries.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and reliable transportation.
