Executive Director Job Description
The Executive Director, in accordance with the objectives, policies, and directives set forth by the affiliate Board of Directors, provides overall executive and operational leadership for the affiliate and ReStore. The Executive Director is a non-voting Board and Executive Committee member and ad hoc member of all other Affiliate committees. The Executive Director accepts the covenant of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) and is a leading advocate of the affiliate regarding the fulfillment of the organization’s mission and vision statements. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Affiliate Management, Administration, and Oversight:
- Ensure the financial management and oversight of the assets and resources of the Affiliate.
- Oversees and manages all Affiliate operations, including office/administrative functions, construction activities, family services activities, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, and retail operations (Habitat Restore)
- Act as a liaison to the Board of Directors, recommending changes to the Affiliate policies, procedures, and by-laws, participating in standing committee meetings, assisting with the coordination of communications between the committees, and reporting all aspects relating to the Affiliate
- Implements policies, procedures, and directives adopted by the Board
- Ensures that legal obligations of the organization are met on time and following applicable laws, legal obligations of the Affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity International Core Tenet and Quality Assurance Guidelines
- Oversee the supervision of the Restore management.
- Oversee the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of any subordinate staff as needed
- Collaborate on various public relations initiatives, including optimizing our presence in the communities we serve. Encourage and organize, as needed, participation in community outreach activities.
- Enhance the relationship between the Executive Director and Board of Directors by helping to carry out the Strategic Plan, clearly communicating the affiliate's current state, assisting with fundamental decision-making, and training new Board members.
Resource Development:
- Foster and maintain healthy relationships with major donors and housing sponsors, including regular follow-up with current sponsors.
- Work to expand the number of corporations and organizations who actively support Habitat
- Optimize the use of social media including the use of Facebook, Affiliate Website, newsletters, etc.
- Coordinate and support special events to develop donor relations
- Grant preparation and identifying opportunities to partner with like-minded organizations on significant projects
- Maintain effective communication with Habitat for Humanity of North Carolina (HFHNC) and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) to ensure participation in all state and international programs
- Recognize that volunteers are a critical resource; support and expand the existing volunteer base
- Authorize expenditures within board-approved guidelines
Community and Government Relations:
- Be proactive in cultivating relationships with other community not-for-profit organizations
- Seek opportunities to partner on projects that would have a major impact on a neighborhood
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with representatives of government agencies
- Advocate for cooperative action to address the needs of low-income families
Executive Director Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Leadership experience in planning, delegating, supervising staff, and building partnerships. Experience in raising money for non-profit organizations is necessary
- Hand-on experience in finance, including budget development, preparation of financial reports with analysis, ensuring staff accountability for financial performance, and reporting/monitoring current performance for the Board of Directors
- Highly motivated and results-oriented
- Excellent written, oral, and group presentation skills
- Enthusiasm for development of a deep understand of the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
- Must know and understand the complete financial health of the organization. Responsible for the adherence and maintenance of sound financial practices that are developed with the board.
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience with a record of accomplishment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives at the same time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the construction industry and mortgage business is desired
- Three years of managerial experience
- Self-starter and ability to meet established guidelines
- Fundraising and grant writing experience
- Familiarity with major gift and planned giving campaigns and programs
- Experience developing community partnerships
- Experience with Habitat for Humanity

Competitive salary and benefits will be based on qualifications and experience.

Pay: $24,960.00 - $60,840.00 per year
