$35.70 AN HOUR M-FRIDAY BEGINNING MARCH 2025.
Position Purpose: This position provides optimal school health care services in support of student learning and success. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs all other related work as required.
Essential Functions:
- Provide high quality school nursing services on a daily basis.
- Conduct all state-mandated student screenings
- Medication administration and assessment
- Ensure all students meet MA DPH requirements for immunization and physical exams
- Assess and plan care for students with special health needs
- Maintain cumulative school health records
- Provide case management for students with chronic health conditions
- Attended required IEP/504 and student re-entry meetings
- Maintain a current, up-to-date knowledge of school nursing and related medical practices.
- Consults with Lead Nurse and other nurses to establish, review and revise policies and procedures in order to maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date school health program and procedural guide which complies with current county, state, and federal laws.
- Meet regularly with the school nursing staff for the purpose of discussing new information and to participate in the ongoing discussion of needs, priorities, procedures and policies.
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding medically related issues and school programs.
- Participates in the District Wellness Team and related activities as directed by Nurse Leader and Director.
- Work cooperatively with other providers of physical, social, and/or mental health services including state/local agencies, within the schools and communities. Serves as a resource to families, staff, and students.
- Participate in district-wide events related to their responsibilities including sports physicals, mandatory screenings, immunizations, allergies/Epi Pens, etc.
- Provide for the effective utilization of local, state, and national health resources.
- Serve as a member of student assistance teams, district safety/health committees, Crisis Response Planning Team and SBIRT Team.
- Maintain all school health records and required state documentation required by DESE, MA Department of Public Health and other agencies.
- Assist with the orientation and ongoing in-service training of nursing staff. Serves as a professional mentor to those new to the program.
- Attend and participate in district, school and community meetings as needed. These activities may also include specialized training and public information sessions.
- Assist with all Covid-19 related follow-up including after school, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Maintain DESE/DPH COVID Guidelines as outlined
- Maintain Infection Control Procedures related to Disinfection/Sanitization
- Complete all required record reviews and documentation for incoming students. Communicate with sending schools to ensure all medical information is received.
- Perform other professionally related duties as may be reasonably requested by the Lead Nurse, Director, Principals or Superintendent.

- Attend Guidance/Pupil Personnel Services events and presentations outside of school hours.
- Serve as a member of the school’s crisis response team.
- Serve as a member of the school’s SBIRT team.
- Participate in staff and faculty meetings.
- Participate in the Educator Evaluation process.
- May assist students with daily life skills/needs such as toileting.
Recommended Minimum Qualification
Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Nursing or L.P.N
CPR/AED Certification.
Preference given to nurses with a: Valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts. School Nurse experience.
DESE Nurse Certification and who can work every day during the leave period.

Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of nursing, case finding, management and advocacy. Knowledge of contemporary health and psychosocial issues influencing children. Health care deliver systems and concepts of primary health care. School health care law and policy. Basic knowledge of special education and services.
