Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) is a trade association located in New York City representing more than 200 hospitals, health systems, and continuing care facilities in New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Role and Responsibilities:
GNYHA is seeking a Government Affairs intern for a paid opportunity this summer. Reporting to the Director, Federal Affairs, the Federal Government Affairs intern will be responsible for supporting Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) Government Affairs staff on public policy and legislative projects. The intern will support GNYHA’s Federal, State, and City advocacy activities.
The intern’s responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research on health policy issues that affect GNYHA members.
- Providing support with tracking bills, hearings, markups, and other relevant parts of the legislative process.
- Collaborating with internal policy experts and Government Affairs staff to produce written materials that support GNYHA advocacy, including legislative alerts, PowerPoint presentations, and articles for GNYHA newsletters.
- Assisting in the preparation of briefing materials, policy papers, and presentations.
- Participating in meetings with various individuals, including GNYHA member hospitals and government staff.
- Occasional travel to Washington, DC, Albany, and around New York City (compensated by the organization).
Required Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate student, either at the bachelor’s or associate’s level, working towards a degree in a relevant field, such as political science, law, public policy, public health, or related disciplines.
- Strong interest in health care, public policy, and government.
- Superior writing and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex topics in an understandable manner.
- Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to efficiently manage projects with direction and oversight.
Internship Length: The internship will last for eight weeks, starting Tuesday, June 10, until Wednesday, August 6. GNYHA will consider requests to use this internship to fulfill credit requirements.
Work Schedule: A hybrid model with the expectation to work physically in our office Tuesdays and Wednesdays as mandatory in-office days with a third in-office day at your discretion, in coordination with your supervisor and in accordance with the business needs of your department. This schedule may be subject to change in GNYHA’s sole discretion.
Compensation: The intern will be paid $16.50 per hour for the duration of the program.
