AREA: Cattle Barns
General Purpose: To care for and move the cattle from unloading to the pens.
Job Description
Employee unloads cattle from trucks, counting, weighing and separating into pens. Keeps a record of what cattle are in what pens and from what producer. Prepare a kill pen processing rotation to keep flow through the slaughter floor.
Skills And Requirements
The working conditions are very similar to the outdoors. Fans and other means are used to move the air flow. Because this is a barn, employees are typically exposed to the outside temperatures. The overall temperature can range from 40º in the winter to 90º in the summer. The environment that individuals will be working in can fluctuate. Employees will be required to stand and walk for anywhere between 8 – 9 hours, sometimes on a platform. The noise level is often loud, and hearing protection must be always be worn.
Additional PPE: Hardhats, steel-toed boots and, in some cases, fall protection.

- Humane Handling Training
- Ability to use Livestock Scales
- Standing – Constant standing And Walk on concrete or platforms for 8 to 10 hours per day, 6 days a week
- Heavy Work
- Light work occasionally, 50 to 60 pounds of force constantly move objects.
