What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Greater Omaha Packing Co.?
The Staff Accountant is responsible for day-to-day general ledger accounting duties for use in the development of strategic business planning. This position is responsible for preparing and reviewing a variety of financial data, and assists in maintaining and updating company financial models.
Responsibilities:
- Research and reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Prepare weekly and monthly journal entries
- Assist in preparation of period-end financial schedules
- File and remit taxes and other financial obligations
- Manage income and expenditure accounts
- Reconcile employee expenditures
- Comprehension of key financial metrics and their impact on the Company’s financial results
- Analyze and recognize causes of significant and unusual financial trends
- Assist Financial Controller in implementing and maintaining effective financial controls
- Work effectively with stakeholders to identify weaknesses in internal processes and necessary process improvements
- Assist in other accounting duties as requested
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred

Previous experience with accounting software and data entry
- Strong understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
