Description
The Greater Peoria Family YMCA is seeking a Rec N Roll Program Assistant who will be responsible for working with children/teens to promote the enjoyment of recreational activities while improving physical competence, developing confidence, and teaching basic skill development in recreation and healthy living, while also providing outstanding hospitality to ensure a positive user experience. The program assistant will serve as a resource for participants to achieve exercise goals, healthy living goals and a sense of well-being.
Requirements
1. Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid.
2. Mandated Reporter.
3. At least 18 years of age.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities.
2. Provide a fun, safe and positive experience for all participants and create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
3. Provide supervision of the participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines (i.e. ratio, attendance).
4. Work with the supervisor to deliver the program safely, while meeting program goals.
5. Understand the rules and delivery model of program curriculum and ensure participants are taught and supported.
6. Modify lesson plans and instruction so that it is age appropriate, progressive and meets participants' needs. Understand skills for ages 3 – 12, while utilizing differentiated instructions.
7. Create an atmosphere in which all participants can have fun, are safe and learn the importance of good principled athletics.
8. Communicate to parents/guardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them or their child/teen.
9. Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.
10. Have a thorough knowledge of emergency procedures and take appropriate actions for emergency situations.
11. Ensure the cleanliness of program space during all activities.
12. Inform Supervisor on-duty regarding any incident reports that need to be filled out.
13. Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit including on the floor for extended periods of time.
2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
3. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight.
4. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
5. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
6. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
7. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
8. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
