This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The School Age Summer Coordinator at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA oversees/assists the development and operations of the Summer Day Camp program, ensuring the program meets its intended goals.

Requirements

  1. Program Oversight and Management: Lead the daily operations of the Summer Day Camp program, ensuring smooth and efficient execution. Oversee the scheduling and delivery of daily activities, ensuring consistency and quality. Monitor and assess program effectiveness, focusing on safety and member service.
  2. Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Respond quickly and effectively to unexpected challenges, such as schedule changes, staffing issues, or camper concerns. Make real-time decisions to ensure camper safety, staff efficiency, and program continuity. Apply critical thinking to resolve conflicts, improve processes, and enhance the overall camp experience. Encourage staff to use creative problem-solving strategies when managing camper behavior or adapting activities.
  3. Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance: Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ADA accommodations when appropriate. Enforce all YMCA safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe and secure environment for campers and staff.
  4. Staff Leadership and Supervision: Model and promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills among staff. Manage staff schedules, assign responsibilities, and provide coaching and support.
  5. Relationship Building and Collaboration: Foster positive relationships with campers, parents, and guardians through regular, transparent, and professional communication. Collaborate with community partners, schools, and YMCA departments to ensure program delivery success. Serve as the primary point of contact for parent inquiries and concerns, resolving issues promptly and effectively.
  6. Camper Experience and Engagement: Create a welcoming, inclusive, and enriching environment that promotes participation and personal growth. Lead and oversee structured group activities, encouraging teamwork and creativity. Address camper conflicts or behavioral issues in a positive, solution-oriented manner.
  7. Program Support and Community Involvement: Collaborate with other YMCA programs to ensure consistency and alignment with organizational goals.
  8. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the success and growth of the Summer Day Camp program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • One to two years related experience (e.g., supervisor or coordinator of child care programs) preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  

Salary : $18 - $22
