What Qualifications You’ll Need:
At least 18 years old
High school graduate or equivalent
Or enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
Experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.
What You’ll Do:
Lead and monitor a group of campers in daily activities including but not limited to program activities, transitions, mealtimes, morning and bedtime routines, interpersonal conflict, and daily schedule. Manage cabin expectations to create a positive cabin culture.
Ensure all campers can participate in all activities, no matter varied abilities whether physical or intellectual.
Ability to identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior.
Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents.
Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding campers and camp activities.
Always provide exemplary role modeling when participants are at camp and demonstrate a strong sense of ownership over camp, including cleaning of facilities and care of equipment.
