Substitute Expert/Dance Instructor
*THIS POSITION IS NOT WORKS ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS AT OUR LOCATIONS INCLUDING:
Bayside, Newman, Cranston, Kent, South County, East Side
SUMMARY
Provide quality dance instruction in accordance with YMCA standards. Provide quality program classes that teach participants the terminology and technique associated with specific styles of dance, such as ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, ballroom, belly dance, etc. Provide quality administrative assistance and supervision of the dance program when applicable. Help to ensure all programs shall be conducted within the framework of policies and procedures established by the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- Engage and communicate with members, make them feel welcome and address them by name
- Identify and address new participants
- Remain up to date on current programs and facility schedules to provide enhanced member satisfaction
- Create a fun and safe environment in which to learn Dance
- Appropriately provide and implement classes in accordance with National and State standards and guidelines
- Responsible for the health and safety of individuals during class
- Perform rescue/first aid when necessary
- Report accidents and injuries as well as complete accident reports
- Set up and break down equipment as needed
- Attend staff meetings
- Role model core values of: Respect, Honesty, Caring and Responsibility with members and staff
- Continually enhance professional development through additional workshops, educational courses and/or appropriate reading material
- Maintain accurate participant records/attendance
- Responsible for finding class coverage and/or communicating with supervisor to cancel class
- Instruct age-appropriate classes using age-appropriate music
- Responsible for choreography of routines within class
- Attendance at special performance events during the year, i.e., Competitions and Annual Recital when requested
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or Experience
- High School (GED) preferred
- Minimum age 18 years
- Proof of extensive teaching experience
- Certified by or Member of a nationally recognized Dance Organization, i.e. Dance Educators of America, Dance Masters of America, etc.
