Position Summary
This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all YMCA facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for members, staff, and guests. This position is responsible for maintaining high cleanliness standards across all areas, including restrooms, locker rooms, fitness centers, offices, and common spaces. This position frequently interacts with members and staff; therefore, a positive and personable attitude is a top priority.
This position works collaboratively with the Facilities team to support a hygienic and well-maintained facility that aligns with the YMCA’s commitment to excellence in service and safety. Depending on event schedules and deep cleaning tasks, occasional nights and weekends may be required. All night and weekend shifts will be scheduled in advance, and the work week will be adjusted to ensure total hours do not exceed forty. The schedule for this position is provided in advance but days of the week and hours may fluctuate.
Essential Duties - Housekeeping Responsibilities:
- Ensure all areas of the facility are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained to YMCA standards.
- Follow YMCA’s safety protocols, including proper signage for wet floors, maintaining clear walkways, and addressing tripping hazards.
- Perform routine scheduled deep cleaning such as vent cleaning, floor polishing and waxing, etc.
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Available to work weekends, evening, and holiday shifts as needed.
- Report facility issues to the supervisor, such as repairs, maintenance needs, and supply orders.
- Be familiar with and adhere to fire code and general safety regulations.
- Seeks out opportunities to improve facilities
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to deadlines.
- Will be required to travel regularly between GPYMCA locations to perform assignments.
- Shovel and salt walkways during times of inclement weather which also may include reporting to work early to prepare for member and staff arrival.
- A driver’s license is required for regular travel between branches locations.
Facility Cleaning and Sanitization:
- Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in areas such as lobbies, locker rooms, fitness centers, and offices.
- Ensure high-touch areas like door handles, workout equipment, and restrooms are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
- Check and re-stock all the bathrooms.

- Empty Trash Bins inside the branch and at outdoor locations
- Clean all mirrors.
- Clean all sinks and faucets.
- Clean toilets and urinals as needed.
- Clean All glass – Including windows, mirrors for fingerprints and smudges.
- Clean all stainless-steel towel receptacles, water fountains, kick plates, etc.
- Vacuum all mats.
- Clean and remove hair from shower drains.
- Dust-mop and utilize the power scrubber when needed for all tiled areas, including locker rooms, bathrooms, reception area and offices.
- Wipe down all table areas.
- Empty all branch trash receptacles and office trash containers and provide replacement bags for the trashcans.
- Spray and wipe down all trash cans.
- Monthly deep cleaning such as: cleaning under the fitness equipment, waxing the floors, replacing shower curtains as needed.
- Clean up any residual debris from spills or accidents.
Restocking and Maintenance of Supplies:
- Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, and paper products in common areas.
- Report low inventory levels to the branch designee, or order supplies to maintain smooth operations.
- Replace light bulbs as needed.
Event and Program Support:
- Provide additional cleaning services for YMCA programs and events, including but not limited to the event setup of tables and chairs and post-event cleanup.
- Ensure spaces are welcoming, clean, and organized for members and guests.
- Assist with camp preparation and clean up as needed.
Reasoning Ability and Qualifications
- Ability to identify and address members’ needs, ensuring safety and enjoyment of the facility.
- Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred.
- Previous experience with floorcare such as stripping and waxing.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Personable, professional attitude and strong work ethic
- Basic technology skills and/or a willingness to learn user-friendly applications like Outlook email, calendar, and lists.
- Accurately complete required paperwork.
- Follow instructions given by the supervisor and solve practical problems with minimal supervision.
- Interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
