What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Surgical Services position at Greater Regional Health?
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Delegate responsibilities within the scope of personnel abilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate the medical center’s mission, vision, and values, as well as departmental goals to all staff.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff in goal setting, problem solving, resources management, and outcome achievement.
- Define performance objectives and competencies for the department and assess the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others.
- Demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage change, as well as help others do the same.
- Collaborate with other departments to create systems and problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and/or patient care delivery.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility for department resources and the ability to achieve outcomes within allocated resources.
- Incorporate quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other department functions.
- Responsible for development and review of policies, procedures, standards of care in the surgical department.
- Establish and communicate to the staff specific patient care goals related to surgery and consistent with the medical center’s role as a provider in the healthcare community.
- Serve as liaison between medical staff, surgery staff, and medical center administration on matters related to surgical care.
- Ensure that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards and is documented in clinical records.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to share information regarding medical center goals, plans and initiatives, encourage open communication among surgical staff members, and review/resolve issues.
- Fully orient, train, and monitor progress of all new employees.
- Establish and monitor work performance standards within the department and ensure adherence of departmental and medical center standards in all surgical department staff.
- Conduct progressive disciplinary functions, as necessary, to correct performance and/or behavioral issues that may be present in staff. Recommend termination of staff members who do not adhere to required performance standards and/or behaviors as outlined in the Standards of Performance and Behavior signed by each employee.
Skills, Education, and Experience:
- State licensure as a registered professional nurse.
- Demonstrates current competency in those clinical responsibilities for which the candidate applies.
- Previous clinical experience in the operating room necessary (3 years).
- Experience in supervision, training, and performance evaluations.
- Principles and practices of work safety, especially as related to communicable diseases.
- Knowledge of pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
We are now offering a Clinical Recruiting Bonus of $25,000 dollars for new employees! Rehires are not eligible for this bonus. This bonus will be paid out over four years. You will remain eligible for payments after hire so long as there is no drop below full-time in employment status.
