What are the responsibilities and job description for the House Supervisor-Part Time position at Greater Regional Health?
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to staff when making decisions.
- Serves as a resource person to staff clinically and administratively.
- Provides leadership by assisting to coordinate patient placement, and appropriate level of care.
- Assumes leadership role in case of security events (i.e. weather, fire, threats, etc.) and will follow incident command procedure if needed.
- Conducts house-wide rounds, including lab, pharmacy, and clinics (during hours of operation)
- Coordinates and/or participates in huddles for acute nursing staff.
- Assists where needed to coordinate staffing for current and on-coming shift. Completion of assignments to provide patients with safe and efficient care, while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Assists with orientation of new providers and staff.
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care:
- Assists in any patient care area needed.
- Acts as resource for medication pick-up in pharmacy.
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient care.
- Delivers high quality care using the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required.
- Delegates and provides direction of other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
- Uses critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of patients.
- Provides back-up utilization review functions, including the use of Interqual criteria and/or collaboration with UnityPoint Health UR services to ensure correct placement and level of care are assigned.
- Qualified in EPIC context in all nursing patient care areas.
Patient Experience and Patient Safety
- Completes and/or assists staff with the completion of occurrence reports at the time of the occurrence in the Hospital Portal
- Completes the end of shift report at the conclusion of each shift and conducts face-to-face hand off with the on-coming staff.
- Provides service recovery as necessary.
- Rewards appropriate and/or outstanding behavior.
- Will be assigned specific performance improvement indicators, chart audits and other components for the Quality Improvement program.
House Supervisor Leadership:
- Resource for all departments
- Completion and submission of monthly reports, as assigned in a timely manner.
- Participates in EMTALA chart audits and EMTALA education for staff.
- Assists with the planning in collaboration with the Director of Acute Nursing, Director of OB, and the Director of ED, for House Supervisor, Staff and Aide meetings (or any other director of patient care areas).
- Assists with the development and provision of education for staff. Provides education to staff as indicated.
- Leads/ensures completion of competency verification for all nursing staff based on recommendations of nurse educator or director.
- Conducts monthly staff rounding on assigned staff.
- Assists with the completion of budget development, EPIC training, policy review, revision and development.
- Assists with the development and delivery of employee evaluations for assigned staff in collaboration with the Director of Acute Nursing, Director of OB, and the Director of ED.
Skills, Education, and Experience:
- Graduate of accredited nursing program
- Minimum two years’ experience as a registered nurse in acute care setting
- Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of employment
- Required within 12 months of employment: ACLS, PALS, ASLS, TNCC, NRP, STABLE, SANE
