NurseRutland Town School is seeking 1.0 FTE energetic, caring, inspirational, and multi-talented superhero to serve as a school nurse beginning August 2025. The individual in this position plays an integral role in building relationships and helping to keep our students and staff healthy and safe. Among job responsibilities, the ideal candidate will possess strong nursing knowledge, effective communication and collaboration skills, the ability to remain flexible and pivot direction and duties as needed, and the ability to establish a positive rapport with students, staff, and families.Responsibilities of the school nurse include: Providing nursing assessment, treatment, first ai,d and emergency care using strong critical thinking skills.Administering and monitoring medications taken at school, as well as delegation of appropriate school nursing tasks when necessary.Managing & implementing medical action plans (allergy, asthma, etc.) as needed.Maintaining comprehensive and confidential student health records that are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. Must remain proficient in current technology for health record databases used throughout the district.Managing communicable diseases.Developing and implementing individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions.Collaborating with parents, and medical and health care communities to promote delivery of health care services for students.Maintaining AEDs kept on school grounds.Maintaining confidentiality.
Communicating with families and staff regarding health-related issues.Providing families and staff with health-related resources and referrals.Promoting school-wide wellness through health education.Maintaining annual standing physician orders for stock Epinephrine and over-the-counter medications.Working with the athletic director regarding student-athlete health and wellbeing.Collaborating with school administration and staff as needed.Maintaining appropriate health supplies and equipment in the health office.Preparing and submitting annual Vermont state health office reports.Performing yearly health screenings per Vermont School Health Services Standards of Practice.Obtaining and maintaining pre-K licensing requirements.Knowledge of (or ability to access and follow) school and state policies regarding attendance, dismissal, and follow-up as needed during the school day.
