Location: Bush Education Center
Full-time position (1.0 FTE), 8 hours per day (hours: 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), 12 months per year
The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here:
- Supervises and participates in all building cleaning activities
- Assigns tasks to subordinates, gives instructions on the use of building cleaning supplies, materials and equipment, and checks to see that assignments are carried out
- Operates or checks the operation of oil, gas or coal-fired heating systems
- Receives and handles complaints and a variety of special requests from principals and teachers, as well as the public
- May be required to supervise and participate in a variety of ground-keeping activities
- Supervises and participates in the removal of snow and ice
- Checks to ensure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked, secured, and unlocked in readiness for all activities
- Repairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap and towels
- Consults with superior regarding unusual maintenance problems and makes recommendations concerning the purchase of supplies, materials and equipment
- Keeps simple activity records
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
This is a competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must possess this title or be among the top three of the current binding Civil Service Certificate of Eligibles List for this title.
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; or one (1) year of building cleaning or maintenance experience.
- Good interpersonal skills; good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them efficiently and economically; ability to make minor masonry, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and HVAC repairs to perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to lead and supervise the work of others; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks; exhibits good interpersonal skills and working relations with staff, students, supervisor, contractors and the public; thoroughness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
- SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid Class D Driver’s License at the time of appointment and maintained throughout employment
