Position: Camping Director (Elementary School-Aged Programs)

Position Overview:
Are you passionate about the outdoors and helping young people? Do you enjoy planning fun, dynamic programs and working with a team? If so, Greater St. Louis Area Council Scouting has an exciting opportunity for you as a Camping Director! This role offers the chance to create amazing outdoor experiences and summer camp programs that serve kids in grades K-5. You’ll build strong connections with volunteers and staff and be part of a team that helps shape future leaders through Scouting adventures.
Responsibilities:
- Summer Camp Programs: Work with the Director of Camping Services to plan and promote summer camps for Scouts in grades K-5. Help with hiring and training seasonal staff and ensure camps meet all accreditation standards.
- Year-Round Camp Programs: Collaborate with volunteers to plan and implement year-round experiences at our camps that help engage and retain youth in Scouting.
- Fundraising and Sponsorships: Build financial support for camp programs by securing sponsorships, grants, and gifts-in-kind that help reduce operating costs.
- Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, train, and work with volunteers to help deliver successful camp programs. Serve as staff advisor to select committees and help guide their success.
- Community Relationships: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to enhance camp programs and secure resources.
- Marketing and Communication: Oversee marketing and communication channels, including social media and websites, to keep the Scouting community engaged with camp programs.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Flexibility is key—be ready to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university —OR— associate’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills and flexibility.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience in youth programs or fundraising is a plus but not required.
- Comfortable working with and motivating volunteers.
