The basics of an AVP - Risk Management - Compliance & Fraud:
- Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with flexibility
- Position is located at headquarters and there maybe opportunities to work remotely
What you'll do as an AVP - Risk Management - Compliance & Fraud:
- As the AVP – Risk Management - Compliance & Fraud you will oversee and manage the Credit Union's comprehensive Compliance and Fraud programs, with a focus on regulatory adherence, financial crime prevention, and risk management. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, as well as industry standards. This role will also provide guidance and training to staff on compliance and fraud matters and act as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Compliance Program Oversight:
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the regulatory adherence, including financial crime and risk programs, including the CIP Program, customer due diligence processes, and transaction monitoring for AML, CTF, and sanctions compliance.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices, ensuring the credit union's compliance programs are up to date. Interpret legislation or pending legislation and develop strategies for ensuring organizational compliance.
- Audit organizational programs or practices and identify actual or potential compliance risk; suggest and oversee implementation of risk mitigation strategies.
- Act as the company representative during inspections by external authorities or governing bodies.
- Work closely with senior management to develop, update, and maintain compliance policies and procedures. Ensure all policies are effectively communicated and implemented across the organization.
- Ensure proper documentation of compliance-related issues and resolutions.
- Develop and deliver compliance-related training sessions.
Fraud Program Oversight:
- Oversee the fraud prevention program, ensuring effective measures are in place to detect and prevent fraudulent activities.
- Work with legal contacts and local, state, and federal authorities to stay abreast of current fraud schemes.
- Provide expertise and leadership regarding investigations into membership fraud.
- Investigate allegations of illegal, improper, or unethical conduct by employees or company representatives.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address fraud risks and implement corrective actions.
- Report fraud incidents to regulatory bodies as required.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on fraud prevention matters.
Team Leadership:
- Directly manage and lead a team of Compliance and Fraud associates providing guidance and support while fostering a collaborative work environment. Oversee all aspects of supervisory responsibilities to include scheduling, performance coaching, daily workflow, training, etc.
- Attract, hire, coach, and engage assigned staff through servant leadership and continuous coaching.
- Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, share updates, and address challenges.
- Reinforce the Credit Union’s mission, vision, and core values by serving as a culture agent, motivating team members to achieve higher standards.
Data Analysis and Investigation Management:
- Manage and coordinate the gathering and analysis of data related to account investigations, collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the review of alerts generated from all monitoring system, ensuring thorough analysis and appropriate action.
- Maintain, analyze, and evaluate fraud detection and compliance systems and tools to ensure effectiveness while using all available automation and resources.
Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including senior staff and regulatory bodies, to address compliance-related inquiries and provide necessary support.
- Support the development and implementation of compliance training programs for all staff. Collaborate with the Learning & Development team to ensure that training is appropriate and robust.
Other:
- Comply with the credit union Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Policy and Anti Money Laundering and Member Due Diligence Procedures. The BSA training is to be completed within 90 days of employment and annually thereafter.
- Complete compliance and career development training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must haves for an AVP - Risk Management - Compliance & Fraud:
- Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Ability to make informed decisions and recommendations based on investigative findings. Proficiency in using compliance software and tools.
- Experience: 7 years of progressively responsible experience in compliance roles within the financial industry in organizations with greater than 1B in assets, with a focus on AML, CTF, and sanctions. In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and industry best practices. Proven experience in data analysis, investigation management, and reporting.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
Nice to haves for an AVP - Risk Management - Compliance & Fraud:
- Education: Law degree. Professional certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or similar.
- Experience: Familiar with DNA and Verafin systems. Background in compliance law.
