Summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing and standardizing the transmission portfolio management, scheduling, cost management, project controls, and materials practices across all projects within the organization.
This role ensures that portfolio management, project scheduling, cost control, and materials staff follow best practices, adhere to governance standards, and deliver accurate project performance reporting.
The position is also responsible for serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for the portfolio manager, scheduling, cost control and materials staff providing guidance, training, and coaching while ensuring that all projects meet scope, timeline, and budgetary requirements.
While primarily focused on leadership, strategy, and team development, this position may also involve performing individual contributor tasks to support team workload, address critical issues, or drive key initiatives.
Total Rewards:
A typical starting range for this position is $131,000 - $187,000 annually. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Supervise, coach, provide work direction, guidance and training as the subject matter expert to the portfolio manager, project schedulers, cost controllers, and materials professionals to maximize productivity, consistency, teamwork and employee engagement.
· Provide work direction to portfolio manager, project schedulers, cost controllers, and materials professionals and contractors. Ensure allocation of resources provide sufficient coverage.
· Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Primavera P6 scheduling and cost management practices.
· Oversee and standardize portfolio management, project scheduling, cost controller, and material practices, adherence to best practices, governance processes and ensure delivery of projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
· Ensure alignment between project execution and corporate financial and operational objectives.
· Establish and maintain standardized portfolio management, project scheduling, cost control and materials tools, templates, and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure all projects adhere to PMO governance policies, financial controls, scheduling and materials standards.
- Lead schedule and cost audits to verify compliance and accuracy.
- Responsible for development for project capital budget and capital financial forecasts for the division ensuring effective and efficient use of financial resources.
· Ensure internal and external stakeholders are well-informed to ensure project execution success.
Qualifications:
- B achelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, finance and/or related field with 6 years project controls experience. Within the utilities/energy industry preferred.
OR
- Two-year degree with 8 years project controls experience. Within the utilities/energy industry preferred.
OR
- 12 years of experience in a formal project controls role. Within the utilities/energy industry preferred.
AND
- Must have 2 years of leadership (formal/informal) experience.
- Primavera experience or equivalent is required. 2 years of Primavera experience is strongly preferred.
- Professional engineer registration, certified construction manager, project management professional, scheduling certification and/or MBA is preferred.
- Knowledge of electric transmission systems, including planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the system as well as critical sub-components.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Strong organizational and structure skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with and manage cross-functional teams.
- Skill in document control management.
- Skill in developing and delivering effective presentations.
- Skill in conflict resolution including the ability to address difference of opinions or facts and use of the most appropriate method to reach an effective solution.
- Skill in using personal computers and related software for word processing, presentations, building spreadsheets, and interfacing with Outlook functions. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
- Proven ability to manage multiple project control activities in a dynamic fast paced environment.
- Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners.
- Ability to effectively plan, direct and coordinate the activities of resources as well as cross-functional teams.
- Ability to coordinate the work of various disciplines, consultants, and contractors as required.
- Ability to integrate the business philosophies and needs of Great River Energy and its’ member-owners into critical projects that are designed and constructed.
- Ability to solve complex problems along with analytical skills to analyze and blend technical options into broader-based business strategies.
- Ability to utilize effective listening skills with the ability to interpret and clearly articulate user requirements and team member contributions.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances; must be able to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.
