Overview: In Brokerage Operations, a Brokerage Specialist serves as the primary contact for sourcing Capacity on a pre-assigned customer and contracted lanes. This position is responsible for soliciting capacity and securing a shipment at a profit for outside capacity. The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill contractual obligations by generating freight movements that ensure full truckload coverage for our customers. The candidate would be responsible for performing daily check calls on loads in transit, handling customer related issues and inquiries, originating the necessary documentation for freight bills. Additional duties will include building loads/data entry, scheduling pick ups, updating internal/external systems, and general office duties.
Daily Roles:
- Review daily shipment plans to ensure that awarded freight is assigned based on customer needs and expectations. Loads that our capacity cannot pick up will be brokerage responsibility.
- Prioritize meeting defined targets that the company and customer have deemed critical to the business relationship.
- Monitor and address shipments in jeopardy of not meeting delivery/pick up standards and customer requirements for the shipment. Communicate updates to internal sales leadership and customer contacts promptly to prevent increased costs and charges to either party.
- Review and analyze data for accuracy before releasing verification to the customer.
- Must ensure billing is accurate per the customers requirement for every shipment before closing out in our Transportation Management System.
Requirements:
- Communication and being able to multitask is vital for this position
- 2 years of related customer experience required; transportation industry preferred
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and completing deadlines
- The high degree of initiative and independent execution
- Ability to evaluate alternatives to make the best overall decisions based on performance metrics, service requirements, freight needs, economic factors, customer relations, and driver availability
- Knowledge of time/distance geography is required
- Integrity and dependability
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word required;
- The ability to handle high volumes of inbound and outbound email and phone calls is a must.
