EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Required :

  • Must be in good standing with Accredited University enrolled in Masters in Social Work program (MSW)
  • Must have completed graduate coursework in school social work
  • Successful completion of required trainings provided by District 6
  • A combination of related education, experience, and training.
  • Orientation to Sources of Strength program
  • Knowledge of school systems and diverse populations
  • Willingness to engage students and support peer-led initiatives

Preferred :

  • Successful experience working with students in an educational / residential setting
  • Experience designing and implementing social / emotional and behavioral interventions for students
  • Experience with Social Emotional Learning
  • JOB DESCRIPTION

    Summary / Objective : The Social Work Intern experience is comprehensive and designed to meet the academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs of students in District 6. The Social Work Intern will provide students with therapeutic services toward meeting their psychoeducational goals. This could include individual, group and family interventions to help the student achieve success in the school setting. The Social Work Intern will collaborate with outside agencies to provide effective services for students and will connect students and families to outside agencies and resources. The Social Work Intern may also assist with risk / threat assessments, safety planning, and respond to crisis situations. The Social Work Intern will have the opportunity to serve on district wide teams including Behavior Support, MTSS, Equity and Crisis Teams. Supervision is provided according to university program internship guidelines. This internship is particularly well suited for students interested in engaging with and changing peer culture and supporting student led leadership opportunities.

    Essential Functions :

  • Provide support to schools in Greeley-Evans School District 6 to support and build a peer-led program, Sources of Strength.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling activities with students, when appropriate, for the purpose of facilitating personal, social, emotional, and academic growth. This may include co-treating with other professionals, such as school psychologists, mental health providers, speech-language pathologists and teachers.
  • Participate in a variety of activities related to behavior, academic, and social / emotional interventions and consultation to gain experience with and support school wide prevention and intervention programs.
  • Work with students who are dysregulated within the scope of a site based programming to assess their needs, help them to find activities that will help them regulate and return to class in a timely manner.
  • May observe and evaluate children with social / emotional and behavioral difficulties for the purpose of writing and / or contributing to effective functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Participate as a member of IEP teams and support teams as necessary, whose purpose it is to develop a total service plan (IEP or Educational Plan), recommending appropriate intervention strategies and programming for children to achieve optimal educational progress.
  • Connect families to external resources, such as psychiatric, psychological, counseling, or other sources of treatment or assistance beyond those provided by the resources of the school system, in accordance with the needs of the student and request of the parent / guardian.
  • Collaborate with external mental health providers, social welfare agencies and juvenile probation officers, as needed, to comprehensively address the needs of students, including program transitions and supports.
  • Respond to crisis situations and assist in de-escalation of students as needed. Assist with risk / threat assessments and safety planning for students in crisis.
  • Work with the District 6 equity team in examining the dynamics of race and culture within the system.
  • Implement 5 core competencies of Social Emotional Learning through implementation of curriculum and / or practices with students and staff.
  • Assist with in-service training of school personnel in the appropriate areas.
  • Assist with program development / evaluation as available.
  • Attend weekly individual supervision with assigned mentor School Social Worker.

  • Demonstrated skills in data gathering and analysis
  • Evidence of organization, planning and time management skills
  • Ability to drive between sites (reimbursement not provided)
  • Ability to complete all required internship hours in the dates required by University
