Position Overview:
The Camp Activity Lead is responsible for designing and delivering a dynamic two-week curriculum in a specialized activity area. This role ensures engaging, safe, and developmentally appropriate programming for groups of up to 20 campers while supervising and supporting a team of up to 5 staff members. The Activity Lead fosters a positive learning environment, manages camper behavior, and collaborates with the camp leadership team to ensure a successful camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement a structured two-week curriculum in a specific activity area (e.g., arts, sports, nature, STEM, performing arts).
- Teach and engage groups of up to 20 campers in fun, hands-on learning experiences.
- Supervise, support, and mentor up to 5 staff members, including counselors and assistants.
- Adapt programming to meet the needs and abilities of campers of varying skill levels and ages.
- Address and manage camper behavior with a proactive, positive approach.
- Communicate with parents as needed regarding camper progress, achievements, and concerns.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment by following camp policies and procedures.
- Maintain and organize activity supplies, ensuring all materials are available and in good condition.
- Work closely with camp leadership to integrate activity sessions into the overall camp schedule.
- Assist with staff training, development, and evaluations throughout the camp season.
- Support camp-wide events and special programming as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or leading activities in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
- Strong instructional and facilitation skills in a specialized activity area.
- Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage camper behavior effectively and resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
- Enthusiastic, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start date).
