Green Acres first opened its doors in Roseville, California, in 2003, and has since expanded to seven locations in the greater Sacramento area and three in North Texas. About the Role:
Green Acres Nursery & Supply is growing, and we need a proven leader who can guide the financial systems that empower our multi-entity, multi-state organization. We are searching for an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team and ensure our finances remain positioned for continued success. The CFO is a key executive leader who, working closely with our owners and other executive leaders, will have day-to-day, ongoing impact on our organization, helping to analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist will not only understand current accounting practices and trends but will be comfortable in a critical role that requires strong, effective leadership and collaboration across all segments of our business.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Manages the organization’s financial resources, including responsibility for budgets, forecasts, day-to-day treasury, internal/external financial reporting, as well as relationships with financial institutions, external auditors and tax team, and other key financial stakeholders
- Oversees all financial operations, including all financial functions, controls, policies, and procedures, for our multi-state, multi-entity organization
- Ensures proper accounting methods to meet the needs of our retail garden center businesses and our wholesale growing operations
- Provides comprehensive financial reporting and performance tracking for all entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial data
- Provides hands-on, results-oriented leadership, balancing both high-level strategy and day-to-day management
- Serves as a key advisor to owners and other executive leaders, delivering timely, data-driven insights to guide decision-making
- Works closely with owners and other executive leaders to align financial strategies with the overall business goals and objectives
- Advises owners and other executive leaders on major business decisions, ensuring financial stability and profitability, and supporting organizational growth
- Functions as a leader and key stakeholder in ERP and other enterprise-wide system upgrade and integration initiatives
- Researches revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyzes internal operations, and identifies areas for cost reduction and process enhancement; follows similar process for technological and other trends, such as AI
- Analyzes and identifies risk and conflicts of interest, determines ways to avoid or mitigate
- Develops and leads a strong team to perform all accounting functions, and fosters collaboration across various departments
- Ensures compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and business and legal requirements
Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or finance (or equivalent combination of education and experience), with professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant
- 5 years executive financial leadership experience, including a minimum of three years as CFO in industries such as retail, manufacturing, or services with multi-state locations
- Proven ability to manage financial operations for a multi-entity organization
- Experience and proficiency with both accrual accounting and cash basis tax accounting methods
- Hands-on, results-oriented leader that balances both high-level strategy and day-to-day financial management
- Experience managing teams of 15 employees or more, with ability to build and manage high-performing teams
- Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated success in reporting directly to owners and executive leadership and providing insightful financial analysis to drive business decisions
- Strong background in streamlining financial workflows and leveraging ERP and other systems to automate and systematize transactions, enhance reporting, and utilize customer data; experience with ERP upgrades and integrations strongly preferred
- Solid financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic financial planning skillset
- Technologically adept with understanding of various digital tools and platforms
- Excellent leadership skills, with personal integrity and steadfast resolve
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills with demonstrated ability to connect with diverse stakeholders at all levels
- Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively at all levels
- Embraces and leads through change, and considers fresh perspectives and innovative approaches
- Proficiency in ERP systems, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and comfortable using multiple online platforms
- Ability to work full-time on-site from our Support Center in Folsom, CA, with travel to company locations and off-site locations as needed to achieve business objectives
