Loadout Supervisor – Spiritwood, ND

Job Summary:

The Loadout Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the loadout area. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient and safe loading, unloading, and shipping of product while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. The Loadout Supervisor will lead a team to achieve plant goals, improve operational efficiency, and uphold our strong safety culture.

Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance:

  • Promote and ensure adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Lead by example and participate in plant safety programs (e.g., safety audits, JCCs, SORs).
  • Complete necessary safety permits and ensure team participation in required safety training (e.g., forklift training, process safety management).
  • Be familiar with and/or willing to assist in the implementation of Rail Safety policies to ensure safe rail operations during loading, unloading, and shipping processes
  • Monitor and address safety issues, ensuring that all team members work safely with a "Zero is Acceptable" safety attitude.

Daily Operations:

  • Coordinate the daily operations of the loadout area, ensuring the timely and efficient loading and unloading of product (via truck and rail) according to quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team leads and operators to maximize loadout efficiency, managing product flows and train building activities.
  • Monitor product specifications to maintain feed balance and ensure quality.
  • Ensure all Bill of Lading (BOL) and pre/post-load inspections are completed and submitted daily.

Communication & Team Leadership:

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for production, shipping, and maintenance planning in the loadout area.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, communicate expectations clearly to the team, and provide feedback on performance.
  • Collaborate with plant management to ensure smooth operations, attending area and safety meetings as required.
  • Foster a positive work environment, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.

Process Optimization:

  • Work to continually improve the loadout process, identifying and addressing limiting factors and operational challenges.
  • Participate in troubleshooting efforts and collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure minimal downtime and process efficiency.
  • Lead and participate in optimization projects, including generating and following through on Maintenance of Change (MOC) and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) requests.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Review and complete daily operational, safety, and environmental documentation, including shift notes, safety permits, and production reports.
  • Ensure proper inventory management by identifying, labeling, and recording product location and maintaining FIFO (first in, first out) practices.
  • Prepare and distribute evening and weekend operational notes to maintain communication across shifts.
  • Maintain and coordinate required maintenance activities, such as baghouse/dust collector filter changes.

Training & Development:

  • Assist in the training and development of team members.
  • Ensure new employees are properly oriented and trained, and provide ongoing development opportunities to prepare team members for future growth.
  • Actively participate in team member performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and development plans.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in an industrial or production environment, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, PSM) and ability to enforce safety policies.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, genie lifts) and overseeing loading/unloading operations.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and capable of learning internal safety and operational management systems.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in varying environments, including indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Must be physically fit to perform job duties, including climbing onto equipment, lifting, and working in tight spaces.
