Job Description
Green Brook Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our team in supporting students with emotional regulation impairments (behavior disabilities) in a middle school setting. The Paraprofessional will work closely with the classroom teacher and special education team to provide individualized support for students with emotional challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in managing a behavior the classroom, implementing behavior management strategies, and promoting positive behaviors.
- Provide direct support to students with behavior disabilities, including individual and group interventions.
- Monitor and document students' behavior, progress, and challenges as part of the team's collaborative approach.
- Help implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioral plans, as directed by the teacher and special education team.
- Assist students with academic tasks, social skills development, and emotional regulation.
- Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment by promoting positive relationships and conflict resolution skills.
- At least 30 college credits required. Substitute teacher certificate preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special education needs. Experience in a self-contained setting preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and administrators.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to school policies and procedures.
- Capable of managing physical demands associated with behavior support, including de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention as required. Training provided by the district.
