We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator. This hands-on role is integral to our site operations and composting processes. If you're experienced in operating heavy machinery, possess mechanical knowledge, and are passionate about sustainable practices, we want to hear from you!
Site Operations Responsibilities:
- Operate CAT 308 Excavator, CAT 938 Loader, and CAT Skid-steer to handle composting tasks, including mixing, turning, loading, and unloading materials.
- Maintain all equipment in compliance with company health and safety regulations, including cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine safety checks.
- Ensure proper equipment positioning when starting, stopping, loading, and unloading tasks.
- Monitor the safe distribution of compost materials and identify any faults, troubleshooting as needed.
- Report all equipment or operational issues promptly to the Facility Manager.
- Keep work sites clean, organized, and safe.
- Accept incoming feedstock, inspect for contamination, and process it within 24 hours. Reject loads with unacceptable materials as necessary.
- Break down and dispose of pallets, totes, boxes, or gaylords after unloading.
- Cover standing water or leachate with dry materials promptly and mix them into feedstocks or in-process piles.
- Ensure compliance with SC composting licenses and collaborate with SC DHEC.
- Secure and maintain equipment, tools, and company items at the end of each workday.
- Utilizing company vehicle, as needed, make customer deliveries and provide support to customers as needed.
Compost Processing Responsibilities:
- Create composting piles by mixing available products on-site.
- Measure internal pile temperatures daily and record data in processing spreadsheets.
- Turn piles according to composting standards
- Adjust piles to reach the desired temperature range, making amendments as necessary.
- Move completed piles to curing locations for 30-45 days before screening, bagging, or bulk sale.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as skid-steers, loaders, and excavators.
- Previous compost manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- Skilled in using hand tools and possessing mechanical aptitude.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
