Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower consumers & communities to speed a just transition to a zero-carbon world through green energy programs, education, and advocacy. 

 

We have a new program called “EquiSol”, which is about bringing the benefits of solar to low- and moderate-income families through rooftop and community-shared installations. This intern will assist in all aspects of the program including outreach, customer service, communications, pre-development site analysis, and more. There will be opportunities to work with staff on other consumer-facing clean energy programs as well, including municipal aggregation, energy efficiency, and electric vehicles.  

 

Internship responsibilities include:  

  • Conduct outreach to stakeholders including low- and moderate-income households, community groups and others. 
  • Attend local meetings and events regarding solar and other clean energy programs. 
  • Provide written and verbal educational material to stakeholders. 
  • Track all engagement efforts. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn more about clean energy, climate mitigation, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector.   
  • Strong research skills.  
  • Good written & verbal communication skills. 
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to closely follow written procedures. 

 

Eligible Candidates Include: 

  • Students or recent graduates of a college or a training program in Massachusetts, OR who are residents of Massachusetts. Prospective interns must also meet one (1) of the following:  
  • Students must have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college the semester before the internship (24 Credits) or have graduated within the past year;    
  • If a student attends an out-of-state university, they must provide proof of Massachusetts residency; OR  
  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in their program or have completed it within the last year.

Desired Qualifications:  

  •  Some experience with renewable energy, marketing, customer service, or energy policy with a desire to learn more.  
  • Driver's license.  
  • A second language.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (ideally 30-40 hours/week) will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Jamaica Plain, MA or Providence, RI. The session will start on or after May 5, 2024 and end by August 29, 2025. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule, but must be during 9am-6pm M-F. The pay is $22.00/hr. The internship is contingent upon funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
