Job Summary
Looking for a US Veteran, The Grower Manager of the Rooftop Garden at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. maintenance and management of plants in a rooftop container farm setting. This position requires a deep understanding of plant care, irrigation techniques, and landscape management. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills to guide a team while ensuring optimal growth conditions for various plant species.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of a rooftop farm with 1000 sq ft of growing space from 34" high planters beds ensuring all plants are properly cared for and maintained.
- Oversee irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and optimal plant health.
- Identify and diagnose plant diseases and pests, implementing effective treatment plans.
- Coordinate planting schedules and monitor growth progress to meet production goals to supply the restaurant below.
- Conduct regular inspections of plants to assess health and quality, making necessary adjustments to care routines.
- Train and supervise staff in proper growing techniques, food safety protocols, and equipment usage.
- Maintain accurate records of plant growth, treatments applied, and inventory levels.
- Perform heavy lifting as needed for planting, harvesting, and maintaining equipment.
- Utilize basic math skills for measuring soil amendments, calculating water needs, and tracking production metrics.
Qualifications
- Experience in greenhouse management or related fields such as lawn care or landscape maintenance is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of plant identification and care practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 40 pounds) as required by the role.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems related to irrigation and greenhouse operations is beneficial.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining records and schedules.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Basic math skills for operational calculations related to growing practices.
