Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Mental Health School Social Worker - Hybrid position for the 2025-2026 school year. (3 days a week will provide services virtually and 2 days will be in person). This position is a 190 day contract. Start date is August 11, 2025

Qualifications: M.S.W. degree from an accredited Council of Social Work Education school of social work. Licensure through the Iowa Department of Health or equivalent from another state as recognized by the State of Iowa as a Licensed Independent Social Worker or a Licensed Masters Social Worker. School Social Work Endorsement or Statement of Professional Recognition from the Iowa Department of Education. General Responsibilities: Enhance the educational programs of students by assisting with identification and assessment of the student’s educational needs including social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive needs; providing intervention services including brief individual, group, parents and family counseling; providing consultation and planning; and serving as a liaison between home, school and community.
Essential Functions:
Administer, model, and interpret individual and systemic assessments.
Engage in consultation and collaboration with LEA, AEA, parent, medical, and community agencies.
Engage in intervention activities.
All services performed in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and philosophies of the Green Hills AEA, the rules and regulations of the Iowa State Department of Education including the Iowa Teaching Standards AEA criteria, and Code of Ethics specific to the discipline of school social work.
Regular attendance is required.
Consults with school personnel and professionals in the community regarding significant social/emotional, cultural, or developmental needs relating to the student’s school adjustment social and emotional growth of students, behaviors and relationships.
Assists the teacher, parents, and student to be aware of the dynamics that exist with a student or between a student and significant others in his/her life.
Participates in the coordination of services needed for children, families and communities.
Facilitates working relationships between educators, parents and community services.
Maintains and improves professional skills and practice and assists with the provision of professional development opportunities for AEA and LEA staff and/or families in a variety of areas.
Provides prevention and intervention strategies for the wellbeing of students.
Specific Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
School social workers collaborate with professionals in other disciplines (e.g. teachers, mental health specialists, DHS personnel, other AEA professionals) to improve student success.
Provide assistance in identifying learners having academic/ social-emotional/behavioral/developmental difficulties that could lead to school failure.
Provide direct consultation, coaching, and modeling techniques and teaching strategies to AEA and LEA staff concerning student behaviors, student learning style, adoption of methods and materials.
Arrange, plan, and deliver appropriate agency approved activities, including professional development, as directed by Administration.
Implement and/or serve as a liaison for services to learners such as, but not limited to individual/group counseling, crisis intervention, behavior management strategies, home visits, and referrals to community agencies, determined by the individual’s professional judgment.
Participate in continuing professional development activities to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Use research in school practice by (a) reading research literature, (b) distributing and synthesizing research findings, and (c) conducting action research related to applied problems.
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel to districts and schools within the AEA.
