Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing position. We offer a competitive starting wage and excellent benefits, including IPERS. Qualifications: Meet Iowa Standards for current licensure for a Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Bachelor’s degree in education of the deaf (Masters preferred). Proficient in a manual communication system (ASL preferred).
Essential Responsibilities:
Supports total school/community efforts to create a positive learning environment for students/children.
Serves as liaison among AEA, district building(s), families and community and collaborates with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all learners.
Performs all services in accordance with the established policies, procedures, and philosophies of the Green Hills Area Education Agency, the rules and regulations of the Iowa State Department of Education including the Iowa Teaching Standards AEA criteria, and Code of Ethics specific to the discipline of Deaf Education.
Maintains professional competence and remains current with present trends in instructional materials and practices that can be implemented to enhance daily instruction of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Participates in projects, committees or activities to support the Agency’s mission, goals and priorities.
Regular attendance as required.
Provides appropriate individual assessments of students for the purpose of determining eligibility for services. Determines student needs and makes recommendations for program placement and services.
Compiles student performance data in relation to communication, developmental and academic functioning and areas addressed through the Expanded Core Curriculum. Models, implements and assesses strategies related to learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners. Integrates research into the design of best practices.
Collaborates with parents, teachers and other specialists for the purpose of planning appropriate educational programming for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Consults with team members in making decisions related to the student’s hearing loss and educational implications, including post-secondary living, learning and working. Supports and collaborates with educational interpreter(s)/associates(s).
Provides necessary accommodations, adaptations, and strategies to promote student success.
Writes appropriate and compliant IEPs and IFSPs, maintaining all required paperwork.
Provides individualized instruction and/or consultative supports for students according to IEP/IFSP goals and objectives.
Provides individualized instruction, and assists general education teachers in planning differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students for the purpose of allowing them to access the core curriculum and the expanded core curriculum.
Ability to travel to districts and schools within the AEA.
Salary: $49,432 - $83,927.00 per year
