OVERVIEW
The household assistant will provide household support to the cottage of the Elders living in a Green House home. Their primary role is to support a Green House home in their functions to protect, sustain, and nurture the Elders. The responsibilities of the household assistant are to care for the environment of the Elders by providing cooking, cleaning, and laundry services as needed throughout the day. Additionally, the household assistant will assist Elders in living a meaningful life by providing companionship, assisting with planned cottage activities, and creating spontaneous moments of meaningful life with the Elders. The household assistant works cooperatively with other Shahbazim on the Green House Self-Managed Work Team to assist with gathering supplies, providing supervision for the Elders, and other duties as required. The Shahbaz team and household assistant work collaboratively together. The Clinical Support Team directs all matters related to skilled nursing services. The household assistant is not permitted to perform any direct care duties for which a CNA certification is required. The household assistant reports to the Green House Living Guide.QUALIFICATIONS
• Pass pre-employment screenings, background checks, and reference checks
• CPR Certification.*
* Attained after hire, during in-service training, we will provide.
SKILLS REQUIRED
• Recognize the autonomy and dignity of all Elders
• Communicate a sense of caring, concern and dignity for Elders
• Understand how to place decision making in the hands of the Elders whenever possible
• Make prompt and accurate judgments regarding household needs
• Manage household tasks and time effectively
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
• Possess a working-knowledge of kitchen and cooking skills
• Cook for a group of 15 people following a recipe
• Work and communicate effectively as part of the self-managed work team
• Must be able to stand, squat, kneel, push and pull.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
• Must be able to interact with customers and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Good attendance and timeliness
• Accept direction and feedback from teammates
• May be required to perform other tasks as needed and requested by employer.
TRAINING
All employees are given initial training on the Green House Encore Team Education Program, preparing to work effectively in the homes, and to apply principles of the model in their work within the Green House philosophy.RESPONSIBILITIES
• Recognize and respond to the needs of Elders and assure their safety at-all-times.
• Promote autonomy of Elder’s in decision-making.
• Report Elder needs to direct care staff that are outside of the scope of this position
• Maintain occupied and unoccupied beds, to include changing bed linens as necessary
• Assure household Elders needs are answered promptly and professionally.
• Communicate with co-workers at all levels to adequately meet the needs of Elders.
• Report any abuse or suspected abuse to the Social Services Coordinator immediately.
• Actively participate in orientation programs, on-going training and educational classes.
• Follow safety precautions to observe, monitor, intervene or report any unsafe conditions.
• Maintain assurances that our Elder’s lives remain dignified, confidential and private.
• Prepare and serve meals; kitchen and dining room clean-up after meals; provide snacks as requested consistent with the posted menu and stated preferences of the Elder
• Launder Elder’s clothing, linen and other articles as needed
• Perform routine housekeeping duties including cleaning Elder living areas and environment
• Perform other household support related duties as requested.
