Job Summary
The Activities Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities and programs for residents in a senior care facility. The Activities Director will work closely with staff, residents, and families to create a vibrant community atmosphere that supports the well-being of all individuals, particularly those with memory care needs.
Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program tailored to the interests and abilities of residents, including recreational therapy and social engagement.
- Manage schedules for daily activities, ensuring a balanced variety of programs that cater to different preferences and needs.
- Collaborate with caregivers and other staff members to assess resident needs and preferences to enhance participation in activities.
- Organize special events, outings, and celebrations that foster community involvement and resident engagement.
- Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and gather feedback from residents to continuously improve programming.
- Provide support and assistance to residents during activities, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
- Train and supervise volunteers or staff assisting with activities to ensure high-quality programming.
- Stay informed about best practices in senior care, dementia care, and recreational therapy to implement innovative approaches.
Qualifications
- Experience in senior care settings or related fields such as social work or caregiving is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in schedule management to effectively coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and techniques is preferred.
- Familiarity with memory care practices and working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to interact positively with residents, families, and staff members.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding towards residents' diverse needs.
- A creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- MEPAP1 Certification required
